End of season update
Well it’s only taken me a whole season to get round to finally writing a match report!
What can I say but – sorry!
It’s been a pretty good season for the ladies again and we are all sitting today biting our nails and keeping our fingers crossed – not an easy to do at the same time- believe me!!
The reason for this state of affairs – we are waiting to hear if we are in the playoffs to go up to first division or if we are automatically being promoted! It has all come down to the final weekend of the season and for a second year running to the extra games we’ve all had to fit in by today.
The state of play yesterday morning was that NUVOC had to go out and win their game to have any chance of being 1st or 2nd in the league; the rest was up to the other games being played this weekend.
Many thought the game was a foregone conclusion but the NUVOC ladies knew better. The girls from SA had been improving all season and were never going to be a walk over.
We all arrived early for the game, and bizarrely enough – all in new cars!! Think Dave was regretting giving out his homemade tablet on the journey over as the team were all now suffering from a major sugar rush and bouncing off the walls!
But the best surprise was still waiting for us- as we entered the fantastic new Prestwick Academy hall a little cheer went up –the P2 guys were there to cheer us on! They had already finished their game, winning 3-2 against Troon and had decided to pop to provide some support on the way home! You were awesome guys!
We started off strongly in the first set and led convincingly throughout. NUVOC 1 - 0
We were a bit shaky in the send set and allowed SA to get into the game, pushing us to the end of the set. The crowd were behind us though and made their feelings known on one or two of the line judges’ decisions. It was in this set that the scorer also seemed to have a bit of a moment – insisting that we were out of rotation on serve and taking 2 points back from us- however he then went on to say SA were out of rotation also – me thinks he made a mistake all round! Positive – we fought our way through the confusion and points’ loss to take the send set. NUVOC 2 - 0
