NUVOC Volleyball Club Edinburgh

5-0 YEP. NUVOC WOMEN DID JETS NO FAVOURS TODAY. 25-16, 25-14, 25-10, 25-16, 25-6

Na naa, Na naa, Na na na na na naa, Na na naa, Na na na naa, Na na na na na na NUVOC! 

Guess what – WE WON!!! Some might even say we totally thumped them but that wouldn’t be us, as we’re ladies! (No choking on your tea now!) 

We should have known early on that it was going to be a good day for the girls! As we were setting up for the P3 match before ours, Emma received a mysterious phone call and putting on her posh voice had a chat with the mystery caller – turned out it was Dave from Forth 1 and she was live on air as we’d won team of the week!!! The prize being a SatNav (will come in handy for our ‘Tour up North’ next month!) Big thanks to Emma for entering us in the first place - we’re also on their website!!! – Check it out! 

So onto the game- with our team chocolates at the ready (only to be eaten if we had a dip in energy levels) and me with my deluxe cranberries (very posh chocolate crispies with cranberries this time-mmmmmm!) we were ready to take our revenge on Drummond Jets.

Suppose it started with them having to find the hall (sound familiar!)  

The noise in the hall was immense - Polonia Jets had stayed to cheer on their girls – making it difficult to concentrate – more so for the jets team than us as we were totally focused and it put them off their serve. We didn’t do our usual and let them take the lead - we totally dominated the first set. 1 – 0

Second set went pretty much the same way with NUVOC controlling the play totally and reducing the number of points Jets were allowed! 2 - 0

Third set – now this is where we went wrong last time against them (by losing it!) so we were all focused on not letting this happen again!! – and boy did we stay focused only allowing them to have 10 points! 3 – 0 Game won –now for total domination!!!! Lets make it 5 - 0!!!

Fourth set – by now we were on a high and hungry for another 25 points (and lunch!) – no problem to the girls! 4 – 0

Final set – and we finally won a toss! Na naa, na naa  - yes another one under our belt!! 5 – 0 

The squad had a wee sing song and dance in the hall before packing up and not getting showers again!! The saga continues! (Not impressed and neither was anyone sitting near us!) Off to the Hunters Tryst for a very nice lunch and post match analysis!!! We won, we won, we won…!!!! (Excellent food by the way!) 

Interesting facts about our game – Dave didn’t call a single time-out the whole game! He didn’t have to tear out his hair, hit his head against the wall or ask us –‘What the hell are you doing?’ - BONUS!

We had 3 different setters (Emma, Kamilla & Hannah) and 3 different off-setters (Emma, Roxanna & Kamilla) playing throughout the match! Katie and Zalina played leapfrog in the third set! Zalina was on fire, serving, diving, hitting & generally being a wee superstar!! (Think she should get MVP) We had some excellent hits down the line- most notably Roxanna and Zalina’s. All those wonderful balls dropped into the space in the middle. Glenda’s new favourite shot (on serve and volleying) to clip the top of the net and for it to drop over (we saw the snigger!!!) Kamilla’s killer hand slapping (it really does hurt!), not to mention her excellent pick-ups when we all thought the ball was dead. Elin in the middle – defender of the net!! (We’ll not mention that block Elin!)

Fantastic – that’s what we were- Fantastic!!!! 

Hopefully we will be repeating this again!
