Race Night Report

E-mail Print PDF

That’s it – done and dusted for another year (or two! - it was a bit stressful) and despite the precarious run up to it (you wouldn’t believe the shenanigans going on behind the scenes!) it was another successful evening.

With enough borrowed kit from my school to start up my own race night company we managed to have a MIC, sound and a picture – it was all a bit much really!!

We ran the race night in conjunction with Moray House Rugby Club, so us ladies had a few new (and younger!) faces to cast our gaze over- bonus!. Both Clubs had three races to sell and we also ran two auction races.

Portos, owned by Kamilla Haba (PW) won the first race, Suksu, owned by Dianne Ferry (PW) won the third and Pebbles, owned by Cara Cooper (my pal) won the sixth race. Grum (Graeme Allen) from NUVOC 90 had anther successful evening (sound familiar?) as his horse managed to make it first past the post in the first auction race, as every other horse around it seemed to be falling over at the hurdles. He was then drawn first in the Prize draw- but we put it back!!! – only for Wendy (his better half!) to win a prize instead! You’d have thought that was enough for him but NO! He went onto have the same success with the dogs and won the other auction race too, despite various members of NUVOC buying up all the opposition to increase their chances of winning!! We’re thinking of banning him next year!

Over all we managed to raise £345 for the club, which was a great effort from everyone who got involved and came along. Special thanks must go to quite a few people who helped out on the night and kept me sane (a difficult job I know!).

Scotty  - Thanks a million again for running the betting table  - you are a star! Also thanks to his glamorous assistants for helping selling the tote tickets – Hannah, my friend Sarah, Emma, Wendy, myself and anyone else I may have missed out!

Big thanks to Dave for being a force to be reckoned with at the door and helping people to part with their cash! (Mind you – Moray House guys slightly upset when you turned away the group of 12 young ladies!)

Andy  - it was a pleasure to actually be able to hear you this year without you having to lose your voice in the process! Great job – thanks.

A huge thanks to Emma for volunteering to do the buffet – you should have seen her face when I said how many for!!! I also appreciated the counselling service you provided prior to the event! (Two new businesses maybe!)

Apologies if I’ve missed anyone out – my brain is slightly more frazzled than usual.

Well – hopefully I’ll be seeing you all again (and some for the first time!) at the next NUVOC event –YES, the Xmas Night out on the 17th JanuarySheep’s Heid Inn for some Beer’n’Skittles! As they say – BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!!
