North Grampian – NUVOC… road trip up north We set off at 10.30 for a loooooooooooong journey up north where we were determined to give NG a fight for the cup game victory. Winter had kicked in and it was a lovely snowy landscape we drove through.

Emma and Roxana, thank you for manoeuvring us up and down the right roads with such grace. And thanks to the American speaking sat-nav.

Rachel and Glenda joined us in Keith, where we warmed up (and I DON’T mean by running or jumping) in a heated canteen before we could finally go out on the green floor. Not one to recommend for sliding.

Set 1 – (25-11) Rachel was back in a hitting position after last week’s libero duties, joining Glenda through four. Emma was setting. Roxana played off-setter. Elin and Katie embraced the middle spots. We quickly lost a few points and unfortunately we could not catch up. Our legs seemed a bit slow and we were not moving like leopards, which I’m sure Dave wanted us to do. But, we did play and tried to do it well. Positive to see us keep our spirits up and everyone wanted to do well.

Set 2 – (25-16) Kamila came on setting and we started off really well. Excellent scrambling from the whole team put pressure on NG. We fought like true “Edinburghers” in the cold harsh North. It didn’t give us the set, but it looked better and, as we say in Sweden, shame on the ones who give up.

Set 3 – (25-12) Here we go! We so wanted to win this one! We didn’t though. However, let’s not look at the negatives. We are learning from every game we play. Rachel was hitting again and defending like a drone. Emma was setting beautiful balls, back straight to get the right height of the middle sets. Glenda passed with her normal confidence and accuracy. Kamila floated across the floor to pick up balls from wherever the pass went. Katie worked the net and won the “close battles”. Roxana linked with the setter and attacked hard from two. And Elin placed her hits deep and in angles.

We all have things to think about and work on. (Dave, seven in Swedish is pronounced ch(as in Loch)-uh). And I’m sure we will play a much better game on Saturday. We know we have it in us, we just need to maintain our focus, positive thinking and joy for playing. In the end we all love the game, don’t we!?Of course!
