sovt trophy 2009

Wonton Women, with their fearless ninja stylee and death defying defense and unscripted kata attacks, subdued their many opponents in a rigourous, energy sapping weekend of volleyball at the 25th Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament in Perth. With well orchestrated wax on wax off techniques, the wonton overcame severe sleep deprevation and dehydration on day one to progress as worthy leaders for the nuts and bolts of Sundays final quest. Psychological mind games and thieving of undergarments rendered opponents into submission set after set after set. The wonton were too much for all those who crossed their path and proved without a doubt that dressing in ninja suits certainly adds to their effectiveness. With this in mind new strips are being designed as we speak to capitalise on the way of the wonton. Well done ladies. Nice trophy too!
NUVOC XXXL, started their quest early on Saturday morning with only four confirmed attendees the pressure was on to create the magnificient six that would in the end prove too much for those who crossed their paths. The boys managed to jam the local telecoms network around 9am in their effort to locate their players. Particular concern was raised when one of the players complained of double vision, reduced motor skills, hearing difficulties and the inability to sustain a coherant conversation with himself.

However, rehydration and a couple of lambert and butler later rendered him to become a very effective weapon in the XXXL quest for glory. Day one progressed in an understated fashion with group games proving that getting the ball over the net was indeed the primary objective - anything else was a bonus. Having secured 3 victories the XXXL arrived on Sunday morning raring to go in the Trophy competiton. 32 teams whittled down to four leagues of four. Concerns were raised about missing the football but this was soon put on the back burner as competition seemed a tad stiffer today than yesterday. Battling through to the semi finals the XXXL had a 45 minute hang around before they could take to the court again. The stakes were raised and the boys managed a comfortable(ish) victory to take them into the final. A well oiled opponent in the form of VC Concordia looked as if it may prove to be too much for XXXL. However, rolling shots, sensible play (no really), and dummies staying well in the pram saw the boys through the first comforatbly. Second set on the other hand rolled and rolled and rolled. XXXL found themselves 23-19 up and for some reason took the foot off the gas. VC Concordia clawed back point after point and bought the set to a nip tuck point trading excercise. 23-23 XXXL win side out, match point, ball set to four, cross court bifter from Le Slav grazes the wrong side of the line... 24-24, VC push on to 25-24, XXXL pull back to 25-25, again VC take the advantage and so it went on until 28-28. best rally of the weekend saw XXXL pull to 29-28 now it was getting pretty twitchy with the ball crossign the net 8 times before the Gunn buried a cross court four hit. 30-28!! Victory to XXXL. Good weekend. Team NUVOC XXXL: Findlay Haddow, Ian Gunn, Graeme Allan, Andy Slavin, Scott Deans,Gerry MacDonald.
