The Players

Men's National League Division 2

A well balanced team evolved in 2005/2006 formed from a group of highly experienced players who have all represented their country at some level. 2009 brings a few new face to the squad and they'll soon be whipped into shape.

The team ethos is work hard play harder. A highly competitive and dedicated team who enjoy training & playing as much as their domestic and professional lives will allow them to.

The boys train every Thursday under the governance of the Gerry "Buddha" MacDonald @ the Crags Sports Centre between 7pm & 10pm.

If you want any information on joining NUVOC Volleyball Club please contact our club administrator, Gerry MacDonald, via email

Name

 Stephen Makin (#7)

Position

 Setter/ Frequent Volleyer

About the Player GRRRRRRR! Stephen has the unenviable task of trying to set the implausible pass. Never known for his chat on court he's been absolving himself thru the summer with buddhist monks with great success. Previously, stephen has entertained many with his outstanding impersonations of Grizzly Adams.

Name

 Andy Slavin (#6)

Position

 Opposite

About the Player Andy "The Judge" Slavin, played since joining Kilsyth Academy in 1979 where our school Club included Margaret Ann-Fleming, the current  Chairperson of the SVA - she was a few years above me.  Joined Falkirk VC in 1983, where I first met Scott Deans and now have to put up with him again.  Stopped playing for a few years, and then moved to Edinburgh and joined AVC, but a career threatening knee injury in my prime (what could have been!) once again kept me out for a few years.  2 stones and 2 years later came back to the court and stayed with AVC until the Clubs demise in 2003.  Now been at NUVOC for 4 years and can be described as the Waterboy, The Judge, MFB or anything else that limits my time on court, but always there to play. Needless to say, my favourite position is anywhere on court, but preferably as Off-setter with a back court hit akin to Godoy Filho Gilberto (Giba) of Brazil. Can't beat a good Ruby Murray (Lamb Dopiaza), but always washed down with a glass of milk as I don't drink alcohol, due to religious restrictions. Will stay with NUVOC until either I stop playing or the Club closes down - past history not good, since only 2 previous Clubs no longer exist.
