Season Underway

By 29/09/2019 No Comments

Good opening day of the season for the men’s teams today. First thing, it was a home venue at Liberton for the John Syer first round matches. M1 lost the first game to Su, 25-13, 25-21 and perhaps a little tired from the first game, lost the first set to Volleyball Aberdeen Vortex convincingly 16-25. However in a remarkable turnaround, they stormed ahead in the second with some much more confident passing being the key to unlock the attack, in conjunction with a change of serve target. We won the next two sets 25-13, 15-11 for our first win against VA Since being promoted.
After these games coach Stobie travelled up to Dundee Uni to coach the M2 match against Edin Uni. With 11 players, among them 8 debutants at Scottish Cup level it was always going to be tricky. Some excellent on court leadership by veteran player Liam Cairns and Dani Novello pushed the team to a well fought win, 3-1, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23. Everyone got at least a set of court time which was good to get rid of those annoying nerves. There was a great team spirit throughout with support at all times from those off-court. Magic!
It’s looking to be a good season all round and we’re all looking forward to next week’s matches.
